What is chimera?  Well, it is when a human has the genetics for multiple people.  There is a Greek Mythology definition that you should definitely look up, though.

What are some legal issues that can occur?

When a husband and wife decide to go through with IVF, but get a divorce after it has already happened, it is a very tricky situation.  Who will take custody over the child?  There could be three people involved in IVF.  If an embryo is carried in a surrogate mother, she might want the baby.


Also, what if the embryo is implanted in the wrong woman?  The woman may want to keep the baby but she cannot because the embryo belongs to someone else.

What is a Savior Sibling?

A savior sibling is an embryo that is genetically the same as its sibling.  This embryo is deliberately created incase if its sibling becomes ill.

What is PIGD?

PIGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis) is a screening test used to see if embryos created through IVF have any genetic disorders.

What is a Surrogate Mother?

A surrogate mother is one who carries another couple's baby.  Perhaps the wife of the couple is unable carry her embryo, so they implant it in another woman.

What is Snowflake Adoption?

This is when people adopt an embryo to make it their own baby.

What is Gene Editing?

Gene editing is when they they edit the genes of an embryo.

What is Harvest OVA?

This is when they take ripe eggs and inject them with a needle to harvest them.

What is Three Parent IVF?

Three parent IVF is when an egg from a woman is combined with sperm from a man in a laboratory and is then placed inside a completely different woman.  The first women is called an egg donor.

What is IVF?

IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is when a person actually combines the egg and sperm in a laboratory.  The embryo is then placed in the uterus.

What Does the Catholic Church Think About Designer Babies?

The Catholic church does not approve of such things.  Catholics believe from the moment of conception the embryo is a human baby, and IFV disposes embryos.


As soon as they take the embryo out of the woman, everything goes down hill.  They might just straight out destroy the embryo for no reason at all.  Some, however, freeze the embryo until they need or want to use it.  Other people may do stem cell research on the embryo.  Also, the embryo might be accidentally placed in the wrong woman.

What is a Designer Baby?

A designer baby is one that has traits picked for him or her.  They take the embryos out of the mother and find one that seems to be the healthiest.  After, they reimplant that specific embryo back in the mother.
